Living in Michigan provides us with a lot of opportunities for some favorite Michigan camping spots. This state is beautiful and has an abundance of campgrounds to explore.
We have been camping now for the last 10 years. We have explored every kind of camping from tent to RV. Yes, we prefer RVing with the kids. Read my article here about our RV journey.
We are going to share our top 3 favorite campgrounds in Michigan, well because we can’t give up all of our secrets.
Our Favorite Michigan Camping Spots
1. Roscommon- Paddle brave
Paddle Brave Campground is our all-time favorite Michigan camping spots by far. we have been traveling here for years. it is almost like an up north cabin at this point. We enjoy this campground because of its quiet family feels and the proximity to the river. The ownership has changed hands recently but we have no complaints with the new owners. They are just as welcoming as the last ones.
There are a lot of opportunities to explore nature here. The campground offers canoe, kayak, and tubing rentals. The campground will drop you and your rental off at a location depending on the trip you have chosen. Some of the trips have the option to stop at the campground.
If you choose a longer trip, the midway point is the campground making it a perfect lunch stop or nap break. Often times we choose the short trip that ends at the campground. It makes it easier for those of us traveling with kids.
The town has a lot of fun little adventures for the kids. Make sure to subscribe for updates on upcoming posts. Watch out for the Roscommon post for ideas when you visit.
2. Higgins Lake- South Higgins Lake Campground
Higgins Lake is a state campground located on the south side of Higgins Lake. This campground is a rather large campground with spacious sites and lots to offer.
The sites are often electric only, but they do have the option for a full hookup. The sites are laid out around several loops that all lead to the beach area. These beachfront sites have amazing views of the water.
This campground has several beaches, Play areas, and a general store. The general store has lots of souvenirs, food, and ice cream available. This is also where you can rent equipment such as a boat. Yearly we rent a Pontoon boat for half the day.
If you have your own boat this campground is one of the greatest Michigan camping spots. With a marina close where you can store your boat while you are camping, what could be better?
While camping at this park make sure to bring your bikes, this campground is large. There is a lot to offer but they are not close by any means. If you are fond of walking, you will be just fine. If you are traveling with little kids make sure to bring a stroller along with you. We usually bring a stroller and bikes and we do just fine.
3. Silver Lake- Hideaway Campground
Silver Lake Sand Dunes is a wonderful site to see. The Dunes are endless and beautiful to view. There are several campgrounds around that give you great options at the Dunes.
We always stay at the Hideaway Campground. It is slightly off the beaten path but a great location to relax and still enjoy the dunes.
We often will take a vehicle on dunes so being close enough to drive in but far enough away from the town center traffic.
Another great campground to stay at with little ones is Jellystone. Located right downtown you have the ability to walk to a lot of restaurants, shops, and the adventure park.
Moms or Dads, there is a wonderful winery if you are interested. We had a girl’s day trip with a lot of sangria purchased… I don’t know the final cost hehe but it was well worth it.
So as you can see we have some amazing Michigan camping spots that are a lot of fun. If you are wondering if your family should take the plunge and go camping, make sure to follow along here and on my Instagram for hacks I have learned to make this easier on everyone.
